Sukhoi SU-26M practice flight #10

Early experimentation in the new to me Sukhoi 26M. I'm madly in love with the airframe and am beginning to build confidence in it, working through spin series and playing with some gyroscopics. Here you can see me tumble into a knife edge going up and stop it immediately. I also try a cartwheel to the right that starts to get away from me and is quickly recovered. This was roughly flight #10 or...

Hangar Ennui

I spend a lot time in the hangar staring at symbols on the screen, talking to other folks sitting somewhere else staring at symbols on their screen. Usually at some point the hangar door opens and I go poke holes in the sky, but on rainy days like today... the excitement is about the extent you see in this video.

🤮 lol
that looks fun
GO BROOKS!!
Nice . . . I soloed in a Champ in 1962, in Marion, Indiana . . . brought back fond memories . . . Bob
Re upload to fix the aspect ratio…
I’ve been hesitant to try aerobatics bc I hate spins. Any recommendations?
Looking good. Thanks for posting.
quite a roll rate. I know you are enjoying this.
Haha it’s the smile and yell that says it all
Came here after receiving a text from girlfriend. I know more horsepower is never a bad thing but wondering how a nice lightweight engine like a Viking 90 or AM10 would work.
So I saw the title and immediately thought I would share with with my friend Brooks - then realized I was too late. Is the airplane still not to California?
this is pretty cool - good luck with your project
Keep up the good work. This content needs S M Zeus!
This brought a smile... Newly retired airline guy with a T-Crate and a big ‘ol empty hangar. I can’t wait until spring to get in there and get to work! Everyone needs a place of solitude!
Woah! Whole vid about the hanger but 2 secs for the s-330? Beautiful plane
Looking good. And congrats on the regional championship!
iPhone camera ? Looks amazing
What is the useful load for this airplane? Sounds like enough HP for 4 people + gas
Nice, which other aerobic planes would you say most closely resemble the Panzl S 330?
Underrated RUclipsr keep up the good work
Ahh… Six into six. It’s like an angry hornet’s nest.
Beautiful! Seriously interested if you ever have a 2-32 for sale!
Beautiful airplane. Old Wive’s Tail regarding running oversquare. We’d never be able to fly turbocharged aircraft otherwise.
Is that the acrobatic extra300?
you just got it, why are you selling it!! why a su!!
Sukhoi fits my personality better. Panzl or any other “western monoplane” is just not the feel I was looking for. Biplane or Sukhoi is what does it for me.
Beautiful. Had a chance to fly one of these a few times. Amazing
Are the rolls in real time?
Yep. A Panzl’s Max roll rate is 420°/s
The roll rate of my glider is approximately 36°/s 😞
True, but you will never catch a thermal in a Panzl. 😉
Do you even have to watch for overspeed issues of engine or airframe? Or can you just go completely wild without concerns? I'm dying to know what flying some like this would be like. I imagine it would be freeing ! Everything I have ever flown or flown in has pretty narrow margins it seems.
Like any airplane, if you point the nose downhill you do need to keep an eye on your airspeed. A fixed pitch propeller helps a lot as it can act like a brake. Also, most aerobatic planes are not designed for speed. The landing gear are fixed and there may be spades on the ailerons, flying wires on the tail and sights on the wingtips, all dragging through the air and causing drag. Also, the airfoil is not designed for speed. The wings tend to be thick and have a well rounded leading edge so drag can build rapidly with speed.
@pilotdane so basically not a lot to worry about! Just don't vne Damn, what a great thing to be able to do
@@Jmnp08if anything the limits are higher that a bigger concern is to not look or turn neck during the highest G parts of maneuvers or it will hurt the neck. Gotta pull to vertical and look as the G decreases. Bad Habit to break when I just looked left and pulled in the pitts.
@BrooksMershon understand that part! Damn, Maybe one day I will get the chance to be free like that! Sounds absolutely incredible.
Cool man
I appreciate this video. Saw one of these for sale on marketplace and it seemed like a really good value compared to airplanes of similar capabilities. I wondered what the catch is.
What happened to the skybolt? Don't see any further videos
Todo un placer volar en un aeroplano de ese tipo!!
My old airplane! Good to see it again, I miss it!
Dad had one since 1991, I grew up flying it and I'm pretty sure it what made me want to be an airline pilot.. She's my plane now and I plan on keeping it and passing it down to my kid
I just bought a 1969 Bellanca Super Viking to be located at Twin Lakes 8A7. Would like some Super Viking conversations.
My first full-time job, 1979 to 1980, was working on the line crew at an FBO at Albert Whitted Airport in Florida. On a few occasions I fueled a Bellanca Viking. I was _impressed_ by how the skin of the wing felt to the touch. Totally different to the aluminum-skinned aircraft -- mostly Pipers -- I usually worked around.
Interesting.
*_Now you see 'em._* *_Now you don't._* 🤭🤭🤭
SWEET.
Nice.
Do you follow Sammy Mason? He had a how-to back before he sold his S-1S
I fly a Bellanca Viking too and when I am big in a hurry I keep as much wear anx teae on my engine and usually fly at 20”/2250
How are we able to hear you on the mic and video?
With a cable… hes probably recording the radio to his phone and then he merges the sound with the video
I used to fly there when it was the Cloud Base prior to you folks taking over. Good job! I hope to get up for a ride soon. That 232 is so nice! Bubble canopy? Wow.
Love this vid…cool plane…
Also when you fly places for trips what do you do with your plane? Do you hanger it or do you leave it outside?
How much was the glass piece? How do you love the plane. I’m looking at buying a Viking. I am curious where did you learn to fly complex?
I miss mine!! Had a 1973 17-31A N93710. Loved that Lycoming engine with 2,000 hr TBO. Better than Continental 1200TBO.
Beautiful.
